(in just over 5 minutes!)

Project Romanian Rescue (“PRR”) is a full-Gospel non-denominational Christian mission in Constanta county, in S. E. Romania in Eastern Europe. We are a government-registered non-profit Christian and humanitarian foundation, ministering continuously since 1997. PRR is fully licenced and accredited by the Romanian authorities. We operate under the county Child Protection Authority, and collaborate together with local schools, churches, and other organisations.

The first recipients of PRR’s assistance were mainly street children – abandoned, rejected and neglected, struggling to survive in streets and tunnels. Today, the young people we help include many from a variety of additional at-risk, painful and dangerous situations.

From its inception in 1997, PRR has ministered through outreach interventions directly in the harsh, dangerous street environment where many young people still struggle to exist. Many have left the streets with PRR's help and we praise the good Lord for all the miracles of transformation He has performed in these once-lost lives. You can read and view more about our street outreach programme via the link here.

PRR looked after two family-type homes, Benjamin House for boys and Anna House for girls. Children in these homes attended school and church, benefiting from Christian example and role modeling. Today, the two family-type homes have closed, keeping in touch with former beneficiaries.

PRR has also assisted hundreds of young people through its Casa Charis Day Centres, where children were fed, clothed, administered first aid, taught to read and write, and shown the love and Gospel of Jesus Christ through deed and word. Casa Charis served from 1997 through 2004, and again in a different location, from 2012 through 2017.
Following the example of the Casa Charis day centers, the foundation currently has one day center, three more are to be opened with God's help. We ensure that every child who benefits from the day center program is fed, has full access to homework help, reading and writing help, and is shown God's love through all they experience.

Since 2022, we have been involved in the lives of Ukrainians both those who have remained in Ukraine and those who have found peace in our country. We have constantly helped them with food, clothes, generators, living space and activities for children.

We are running a program to support with food several families from the villages near Constanta. Periodically, families from disadvantaged backgrounds receive food from us. Also, families of beneficiaries of day center are helped with food.

Every summer we organize camps for at least 100 children from the day care center as well as from rural villages. For many of these children, the camp organized by us is the first camp they attend or the first time they go out of the village. Besides relaxation and fun, in these camps they hear the word of God, sing songs and learn verses. The children return home with memories and changed lives.

PRR Outreach Programme

Street outreach has been a mainstay ministry of PRR since we started helping severely at-risk young people back in the summer of 1997.

At that time, there were very many children struggling to survive, living in the harsh streets of Constanta. Some had been thrown out of their home, and some had fled due to abusive conditions and/or profound poverty that left them malnourished and chronically hungry. They were suffering great emotional pain, from abuse and rejection, as well as the dangerous living conditions. In winter they slept in utility tunnels, with unspeakably odorous and polluted air. They would try to numb their hunger and deep emotional pain by frequently inhaling dangerous volatile substances, or consuming alcohol, or worse.

It was to this severely neglected and abused ‘population’ that PRR first and foremost felt called to minister and help save. A team of dedicated Christian workers went out regularly, serving desperately needed food and drink, getting to know them and listening to their stories, offering clothing and basic medical intervention, essentially sharing the Good News and love of Jesus in deed and in word.

PRR’s model sought to bring young people from the streets into our Day Centre - and for those who were seriously interested in long-term help, accepting them into one of our residential homes. This model became a reality with many young lives permanently transformed for the better.

Over the years, happily, the demographic has evolved such that there are now very few children in the streets, although there are still many young adults. And since some of them are having children, there are now very young children in either street or near-street conditions. It is to these young people and families that PRR has sought to continue to minister, as in years past - with food, drink, clothing, medical attention, and a caring, listening ear, and sharing the Good News of Jesus.

Sadly, due to lack of funds, street outings have been severely curtailed in recent times. But our fervent hope is to resume street outreach on a regular basis in the near future as funds permit. The need is still great and PRR’s heart is still with those severely marginalised, suffering precious young people, our Lord’s ‘least of these’. And we are very aware that when we minister to them, we are indeed ministering unto the Lord Jesus Himself (Matt. 25:40).
