Our Homes

Casa Anna (Girls' home)

Since 2000, PRR has provided quality long-term Christian care for at-risk girls at Casa Anna in Constanta County.

OVERVIEW:
Casa Anna is a home for girls needing rescue from many dangers, such as living in the streets, or family situations involving abuse, rejection, negligence and poverty with unhealthy living conditions. The girls are cared for by an excellent trained and qualified Christian staff. PRR strives for a healthy balance of love and discipline and work and play. All the girls attend a fine school. Some Casa Anna girls have won academic prizes. They also attend Church regularly, and have a group devotional time before bedtime. Traditional Christian values are imparted through teaching and role-modelling. Besides enjoying quality schooling, the girls learn everyday life-skills such as cooking, housekeeping, laundry and shopping, etc.

They participate in many activities and hobbies such as arts and crafts, hand-making greeting cards, music, drama, and sports. The children do very well and flourish at Casa Anna, and there are virtually no runaways. The girls stay for long periods and go on to lead successful and productive lives. “Graduates” keep in touch and come back to visit. A core value of PRR is belonging – our young people really feel and know that someone cares about them, and that they truly belong to our PRR family. Former residents know that they belong and are warmly welcomed when they come back ‘home’.

BRIEF HISTORY:
In 2000, PRR became aware that there were many girls in dangerously high-risk situations in Constanta County. One girl who was attending our Casa Charis Day Centre was found living in the filthy, smelly basement area of a building under demolition. She sought shelter there alone, except for dogs who did not go outside to ‘do their business’. This case moved us to take action. We rented a suitable apartment and hired capable caregivers. Soon, a second young girl similarly at risk was received into the home, and the number of girls cared for grew. The home moved to a proper house with front and back yards. In 2004, with the help of a generous benefactor, Casa Anna moved to a larger more modern two-storey house with lovely yards and gardens. It has a warm, inviting feel to it and many improvements to the home have been made over the years. The girls grow their own vegetables, and learn to bottle them for winter in traditional Romanian fashion. The home is in a pleasant small town to the west of Constantza, named Valu lui Traian. The boys’ and girls’ homes are close, being in small towns bordering each other. This gives a sense of community within PRR.

We are happy to report that the very first two girls from back in 2000, are now both doing extraordinarily well. They each have their own lovely families and are living faithful Christian lives. We enjoy staying in touch with them, and with many of the other numerous Casa Anna ‘graduates’.

Casa Benjamin (Boys' home)

Since its foundation in 1997, PRR has provided quality long-term Christian residential care for dangerously-at-risk boys in Constanta County, Romania.

OVERVIEW:
Casa Benjamin is a home for boys rescued from many dangerous situations, such as living in the streets, or family situations involving abuse, rejection, negligence and profound poverty. The boys are cared for by an excellent qualified and caring Christian staff. PRR strives for a healthy balance of love and acceptance and discipline. All the boys are enrolled in a very good school, and regularly attend Church. They also have a group fellowship time nightly before bed. Traditional Christian values are imparted both through teaching and role-modelling. Besides enjoying quality schooling, the boys learn everyday practical life-skills such as cooking, housecleaning, laundry and shopping, etc.

They participate in organised sports and are involved in a computer course. Boys do well and flourish at the PRR home, and there are virtually no runaways. They tend to stay for long periods and go on to have successful, productive lives. “Graduates” enjoy staying in touch and coming back to visit. A core value of PRR is belonging – our young people really feel and know that someone actually cares about them, and that they truly belong to our PRR family. Former residents know that they continue to belong and are warmly welcomed home when they come back to visit.

BRIEF HISTORY:
The PRR home for boys opened in the summer of 1997, in an apartment in Constanta. The first residents were two teenage boys who had been living on the streets in Bucharest, sleeping in dangerous tunnels. They were eager to escape the perils of street life and to have a fresh start. The home was moved into a better apartment, and more boys were received and housed. During the next ten years, the number of rescued boys admitted to the home grew in number and age range, supported by a qualified and caring Christian staff. In 2008, through the help of a generous benefactor, the home moved to a large, modern home on a 1.5 acre lot, in a village to the north of Constanta called Kogalniceanu.

While the home was in that village, the boys learned to garden and work with animals, and had plenty of space to play. In 2012 the PRR Boys’ Home finally got an official name: Casa Benjamin. In 2018 the home relocated to Murfatlar, a town to the west of Constanta. This move was due to a number of practical and logistical factors. The current house, donated by long time benefactors of PRR is well-suited to the group needs. It is very much liked and enjoyed by the boys and staff. An additional advantage is that the boys’ and girls’ homes are in bordering small towns, much closer to each other than they have been for years. This enhances the sense of community within PRR.

We are happy to report that those first two boys from back in 1997, are both doing extraordinarily well. They are both married to lovely young ladies, and each has two wonderful children. We enjoy staying in touch with them, and with many of the other former Casa Benjamin ‘graduates’.
